The Garmin is really not an essential but coupled with a heart rate monitor, it can be quite useful for you. It can track your speed, and your route, etc. I have friends who use the watch-type Forerunner 305 series (<PHP8k) whenever they run and it certainly helped with their performance. If you'd like to compete with yourself, this may be a good move.

Go check out some of the activities I have at http://connect.garmin.com/explore?owner=mcabazal . The Player will show you data about Cadence, Speed, Heart Rate. While it's nice to have all these cool data, I got the Garmin primarily to alert me if I'm underperforming. :)

Hello Estan! I would have loved to run as well but I just can't. My shin muscles will hurt like hell because it'll try to compensate for not giving too much pressure on my heels. Bago pa ako hingalin, masakit na paa ko. It's good that you're still able to run! Are you wearing shoe inserts as well? It feels good ah. You might want to consult a doctor for that too. It should minimize pains in the morning which can be very annoying especially when you're rushing to go to the john. Haha!

And yup, I'm from Smart, more specifically, a subsidiary. I'm with Wolfpac. :)

by the way, how's the garmin? is it really that useful? or, especially for me who is just starting, is it something that I should get later on?

i suspect, i also have planter fasciitis. that was the initial result of the foot doctor i visited (once). It was brought on during a trek in Mt. Amuyao with Smart Mountaineering Society (if you're from Smart, most likely you know the group, I quit there in 2006). Foolishly, I wore sandals on the way down.

Now, it hurts only in the morning, especially after waking up but after, it disappears. That's why I'm now running to lose weight as well as for fitness with no pain in my heel.
